Fear no Fear

August 30, 2009

fear no fearyesterday i felt afraid
afraid of how what they said
would determine what i would do
today i am remembering fear
remembering it for it to go away
today it doesn’t matter what they say or how they say it

DJ Elmo’s Beatstreet Podcast

August 15, 2009

Contrary to popular belief (i know i sound that way alot) I like club musicelmo (in small doses..:-) )…and by club music I mean music that’s played in a club and has people dancing…

THe ‘problem’ I have…is with people who create/play that kind of music simply because ‘it’s what the people want’….If the music is coming from a place of love I’m with it…and by love i mean its something the DJ/producer inherently likes/connects with and wants to share..

In steps DJ Elmo….A bredrin i’ve known for a little while now..can’t remember exactly where and under what circumstances we met….but the man is a DJ/producer who’s most known for playing ‘dance’ music (all music makes u dance in my opinion..if not with your feet..with your thoughts)…

He automatically went in my good book for just doing what he’s doing….playing music he likes in a city where this music isn’t the norm…

then on talking some more…..the connection got stronger because its a bredren that truly loves music, is humble and is open to learning more….

…So when he asked me if he could interview me for the 3rd episode of his beatstreet podcast…i was honoured……

He came to check me up at my place a few weeks back….we reasoned for a bit….he had his laptop with him and was showing me some tracks he was working on….he put me onto a couple vsts too (respeck mi boss)….and we did a little ‘interview’…….he also put up a mix i did as well….

Check it out here….

Organic

August 12, 2009

Sunday evening. Sitting at my desk. I get a flash of last night and I now need to get dressed and go to London. I end up of Commercial Street looking for Cafe 101. They are playing Reggae, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Jazz today, plus the entry is free. I find Cafe 101 but in the middle of another London cultural Paradise. I discovered the leftovers from a day at the Bricklane market. This place is……… This place makes you want to be. I walk slowly looking around trying to capture every detail. People are sitting on the pavements and the sidewalks just chatting and laughing and eating and whatever else. There are on both sides of the road but nobody notices me because there are so many worlds just right there. There is a music shop. Rough Trade. A big building, rough looking it doesn’t have a neat finish but once I stepped in I felt like I was all the music they had in there. Underground, barely above ground, non-commercial. Cool there is Wired magazine at the counter I wonder if they have Shook. The design is enticing. Cultural. There are people in a corner browsing the internet seems like a cafe there. There is just so much music which surrounds here. This is divine.  Okay I will definitely come back with some pounds. I step out feeling different from when I entered. I look across the likkle walkway and there is Cafe 101 but beside it is Organic…. we only sell food with organic ingredients. Sounds delicious, but first Cafe 101. This place is jam packed. People going in and out lining up for food.  Watching the food being done on the grill. There is so much people here where did they come from? This place is nice though, eating area outside with benches. Tables inside a lounge area with the Dj and a Book orphanage. I wonder how much money they make in a day? I sit to eat my veggie burger. It taste better because the music is nice and the place is nice and i can just sit and relax I don’t have to worry about anything. Not afraid of anything. Don’t need to be anywhere but here. This is Organic.
